Monitoring ground stability is important in areas affected by erosion, underground water movement, construction, or naturally occurring cavities.

Drone-based aerial surveys can cover large areas and collect images that help professionals identify surface depressions, terrain changes, and other features that may need closer inspection. When combined with appropriate surveying equipment and geological expertise, this information can support ground assessments and ongoing monitoring.

However, aerial images alone cannot confirm whether a sinkhole is forming underground. Additional investigation by qualified geologists or engineers may be needed to determine the cause and assess the level of risk.

Do you think drone mapping and remote sensing could make ground inspections more efficient and safer? What other technologies would you combine with aerial surveys to improve monitoring?
