Vilitra contains vardenafil, a medicine used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED). It improves blood flow to the penis, but it can also affect your cardiovascular system by lowering blood pressure. For most people who are medically suitable to take it, Vilitra can be used safely as prescribed. However, its safety depends on your heart health, other medicines, and whether sexual activity itself is safe for you. How Vilitra affects your heart Blood pressure: It can cause a mild drop in blood pressure, sometimes leading to dizziness or light-headedness. Heart rate: Some people experience palpitations or a faster heartbeat. Heart attack Vilitra These are serious events reported in people taking erectile dysfunction medicines, but that does not necessarily mean Vilitra caused them. Heart workload: Sexual activity increases the heart's workload. If you have unstable heart disease, the activity itself may pose a risk. Who should be especially careful? Do not take Vilitra without medical advice if you: Take nitrates for chest pain, such as nitroglycerin or isosorbide, or use riociguat. Have unstable angina, severe heart failure, very low blood pressure, or recently had a heart attack or stroke. Take alpha-blockers or blood pressure medicines, because the combination can lower your blood pressure further. Have a history of abnormal heart rhythm or prolonged QT interval; vardenafil can affect the heart's electrical rhythm. DailyMed +1 If you develop chest pain after taking Vilitra, seek emergency care and tell clinicians when you took it. Do not take nitroglycerin yourself.
