The LT4 engine is a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine developed by General Motors for high-performance applications. It belongs to GM’s modern Small Block engine family and uses an OHV, two-valve-per-cylinder configuration. Unlike the naturally aspirated LT1, the LT4 employs a 1.7-liter Eaton R1740 supercharger to force additional air into the engine, allowing it to produce substantially higher power. The engine uses direct fuel injection, variable valve timing, and cylinder deactivation-related technologies in its broader engine architecture, depending on application. In the Chevrolet Corvette Z06, the LT4 was rated at approximately 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque in its original C7 specification. It was also used in vehicles such as the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 and Cadillac CTS-V. The LT4 combines a relatively compact pushrod design with forced induction, producing strong torque across the rev range. Its aluminum construction, high-flow cylinder heads, forged internal components in key areas, and supercharging make it particularly suited to demanding performance applications.
