The b48 engine represents BMW's approach to combining turbocharged performance with modern engine technology. As a four-cylinder powerplant, it offers a useful combination of compact dimensions, responsive acceleration, and efficient operation. Turbocharging allows the engine to produce strong torque across a useful portion of the rev range, making everyday driving smooth while still providing engaging performance when desired.
