When your AirPods don't connect to MacBook
, it can be frustrating, but the problem is likely caused by one of the following common issues, which are simple to resolve once you know where to look. To make sure Bluetooth is switched on, click on the Apple menu, then System Settings, then Bluetooth to see if the toggle is on. In some cases, the AirPods just aren't in pairing mode, so open the AirPods case close to your Macbook, leave the AirPods in the case, and press the setup button on the back until the light flashes white; then repeat the steps. If the light is not glowing or is not turning on, the battery may be weak, recharge the case for a short period of time and try again. A third possible cause is that your AirPods have been added to the device list, so remove them from the Bluetooth system by going to Bluetooth settings, locating your AirPods, clicking on the little info icon, and selecting Forget This Device, then use them again as if it was the first time. Also, look for outdated software in the system which may be preventing the successful connection, install any pending updates to the system. If none of the above is successful, then do a complete reset by holding the setup button on for approximately 15 seconds until the light flashes amber, which wipes out any previously stored pairing data and resets the pairing process. Just distance, and other Bluetooth devices not far away can cause dropouts, too—and it helps to keep the AirPods close to the MacBook when setting up. Sometimes it is enough to restart the MacBook and the AirPods case to fix those unresponsive hang-ups. I had a similar connection problem to what you're having and did some research into the reviews and troubleshooting notes for AirPods at TechyAssist and found that it helped me understand which generation is likely to have fewer connection quirks when using with Mac. It all made a lot more sense in that context.
