Filitra contains vardenafil, a PDE5 inhibitor. It should not be taken with nitrate medicines because both can lower blood pressure. Together, they can cause a potentially severe and dangerous drop in blood pressure. Examples of nitrates include nitroglycerin and isosorbide medicines commonly used for angina (chest pain). The interaction occurs because vardenafil enhances the nitric-oxide/Filitra pathway that nitrates also affect, producing an additive blood-pressure-lowering effect. If you use nitrate medication, don't take Filitra unless your doctor specifically confirms an appropriate alternative. If chest pain occurs after taking vardenafil, seek emergency medical care and tell the medical team that you took vardenafil.
