I keep seeing Solana DEXs with huge daily volume and assume that means they're liquid enough. Is volume actually a good way to judge a DEX, or should I be checking something else before trading?

Volume is useful, but I wouldn't use it as the only metric. A DEX can have a lot of activity while the specific pair you're trading has pretty thin liquidity. Your order size matters too because that's where slippage starts becoming noticeable.
I usually check the actual pool depth, expected price impact and the route before placing a bigger trade. Fees are another thing because the cheap Solana network fee isn't necessarily the full cost of the swap.
