Iverheal 3mg contains ivermectin, an antiparasitic medicine that can be prescribed for certain parasitic worm infections. Ivermectin affects parasites by acting on specific chloride channels found in their nerve and muscle cells. When the medicine binds to these channels, it increases the movement of chloride ions into the parasite's cells. This disrupts normal nerve and muscle activity, causing the parasite to become paralyzed and eventually die. For example, official prescribing information notes activity against various life-cycle stages of many, but not all, nematodes. Its activity against Strongyloides stercoralis is primarily directed at intestinal stages, while its activity against Onchocerca volvulus is directed toward tissue microfilariae rather than adult worms.

The reason ivermectin can affect worms while having a different effect in humans is related to its target. Parasites have glutamate-gated chloride channels in their nerve and muscle cells, and ivermectin binds to these channels with high affinity. This increases chloride permeability and causes hyperpolarization of the parasite's nerve or muscle cells. The resulting disruption leads to paralysis and death. Ivermectin also has relatively low affinity for mammalian ligand-gated chloride channels and does not readily cross the human blood-brain barrier, which contributes to its selective antiparasitic activity.

After susceptible parasites are affected, symptoms do not necessarily disappear immediately. The body's response and the time needed to clear the infection can vary depending on the type and location of the parasite, the stage of infection, and individual factors. Therefore, continuing symptoms do not automatically mean that ivermectin has failed. Some infections require follow-up testing or additional treatment according to medical advice. Iverheal 3mg should be taken only when prescribed for an appropriate infection and at the dose recommended by a healthcare professional; taking extra tablets does not necessarily eliminate parasites faster and can increase the risk of adverse effects.

Overall, Iverheal 3mg affects susceptible worms mainly by disrupting their nervous and muscular activity, leading to paralysis and death. Its action is targeted toward particular parasites rather than being a universal treatment for all worms.
