Just straight back from a quick stay in Cabo Polonio and decided I'n put my knowledge here, since I've observed that position show up a lot in past threads.
Gone in wanting "calm beach town" and came out knowing that weekend in Montevideo it a bit. This position runs almost totally on its own phrases, number roads, number real grid, just dunes and ocean.
Getting there is honestly half the story. You park at the entrance and have a 4x4 vehicle that pushes right on the dunes, no flat way at all. It's a bumpy, sort of thrilling trip that straight away models expectations for the remaining portion of the trip.
Some points worth knowing before you go:
Energy is bound and largely solar-based, so receiving products requires persistence
Phone signal is unreliable to nonexistent through the entire town
Cash is essential, most small companies don't get cards
Conditions drop a lot at night, even outside of winter season
The sea lion colony by the lighthouse was hands down the highlight, simply because most of them in close proximity was more extraordinary than I expected. Capturing sunset from the lighthouse afterward felt such as for instance a wonderful, simple way to conclusion the day.
Food-wise, it's mostly small family-run areas helping fresh, simple seafood, nothing luxurious but reliably good.
Overall, this trip is really about slowing down completely. If you're great with limited connection and a low-key pace, it's a very worthwhile stop. If you need constant pleasure, two times might feel like plenty.
Will be curious to know if anyone's stayed longer when compared to a couple nights, wondering how the experience changes with an increase of time there.
