Renting storage here is trickier than I expected, so let me save you some time.
I moved to Dubai about eight months ago and spent two weeks trying to figure out the storage situation before I finally got it sorted. The market is genuinely confusing if you are coming from abroad, because pricing is not always transparent and the facilities vary a lot more than you would think.
First thing I looked at was location relative to my apartment, not just the cheapest price. A unit that saves you 100 AED a month means nothing if you are paying for taxis every time you need something from it. Factor in access hours too. Some places lock you out after 6pm or charge extra for weekend visits. Read that part of the contract carefully.
Climate control is non-negotiable in my opinion. I made the mistake of assuming all units were cooled. They are not. Anything with electronics, wood furniture, or fabric will suffer badly in an uncooled unit through summer. Ask specifically, do not assume.
A few other things worth checking:
* Whether insurance is included or sold separately (and what it actually covers) * Minimum rental periods, some places push you into three-month commitments * What the cancellation process looks like, some contracts are very vague on this * Security, specifically whether there is CCTV and individual unit alarms
For comparing options I found it useful to browse Storage Companies Dubai before calling anyone, just to get a baseline sense of what exists and roughly what categories of service are on offer.
If you are new to the UAE generally and trying to understand how things like tenancy rules or official documentation work around renting and moving, the government portal u.ae has some genuinely useful background.
Overall my advice is to visit in person before signing anything. Photos on websites are often of the nicest unit in the building, not the one they will actually give you.
