I’ve been thinking about adding embroidery to a suede leather jacket, but honestly, suede seems much harder to work with than regular leather. Has anyone here actually tried embroidery on suede leather before? I’d really like to hear some real experiences, especially about what works and what usually goes wrong.

One thing I noticed is that suede marks very easily. Even small needle holes can become visible if the stitching is removed or adjusted later. I’m considering adding a small embroidered logo on the back of a leather aviator flying jacket, but I’m worried the suede texture might get damaged during the process. Some people recommend using softer stabilizers and thinner needles, while others say hand embroidery gives better control than machine stitching.

I’ve also read that thread tension matters a lot because suede is softer and more flexible than standard leather. If the embroidery is too tight, it can cause puckering around the design. Another concern is cleaning. How do you maintain embroidered suede without flattening the texture or loosening the stitching over time?

Interestingly, I came across discussions comparing embroidery with debossing on leather for custom jacket designs. Debossing seems cleaner and lower maintenance, but embroidery definitely gives a more detailed and premium handcrafted look when done correctly.

For those who have experience, what type of backing, thread, or embroidery style worked best for you? Did the suede hold up well after long-term wear? I’d also love to know whether certain suede thicknesses are easier to embroider than others.

Would appreciate any tips, mistakes to avoid, or even photos of your finished suede embroidery projects.
