Virat Kohli’s 105* Seals a Massive Chase as RCB Outclass KKR in IPL 2026
Some innings are about much more than runs.
This was one of them.
Coming into this match, Virat Kohli had registered two consecutive ducks. The questions had started again. Was he under pressure? Was his rhythm slightly off? Had bowlers found a way to keep him quiet?
Kohli answered all of that in the most convincing manner possible.
With a masterful unbeaten 105 from 60 balls, he led Royal Challengers Bengaluru to a composed six-wicket victory over Kolkata Knight Riders in Match 57 of the Indian Premier League.
RCB chased down 193 with five balls to spare, and for most of the innings, Kohli made a demanding chase look remarkably simple.
Fans following the action on All Panel Go Exch witnessed another classic Kohli masterclass under pressure.
KKR Put Together a Competitive Total
After being asked to bat first, KKR produced a strong batting performance and finished on 192 for 4.
Angkrish Raghuvanshi played one of his best knocks of the season, scoring 71 off 46 balls with a blend of confidence and maturity. He built useful partnerships and ensured KKR maintained momentum through the middle overs.
At the end, Rinku Singh provided the late acceleration with a powerful 49 not out from 29 deliveries.
RCB were a little sloppy in the field, and KKR took full advantage to post what looked like a very defendable score.
Early Wicket Does Not Slow RCB Down
The chase began with some intent, but RCB lost Jacob Bethell for 15.
That breakthrough gave KKR a brief opening.
What followed, however, was the defining phase of the match.
Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal came together and steadily shifted the game in RCB’s favour.
Kohli and Padikkal Build the Match-Winning Partnership
The pair added 92 runs for the second wicket and batted with complete clarity.
Padikkal played a crisp supporting role, scoring 39 from 27 balls. He found boundaries regularly and never allowed the required rate to climb.
At the other end, Kohli controlled the innings with his trademark style.
He rotated strike, converted singles into twos, and punished anything marginally loose. There was no rush and no unnecessary aggression. Every shot seemed to fit the situation perfectly.
That is what makes Kohli such a reliable chaser.
A Century Built on Control and Timing
Kohli reached his half-century in just 32 deliveries.
Once set, he began to expand his range.
He drove elegantly through the covers, flicked with authority through the leg side, and struck a couple of clean sixes that reminded everyone how complete his game remains.
He brought up his ninth IPL century in the 19th over with a calm single to long-off.
There was no extravagant celebration.
Just a simple raise of the bat and a quiet acknowledgement of another job nearly done.
Kohli finished unbeaten on 105, an innings that combined discipline, timing, and total command.
Missed Chances Hurt KKR
KKR will know they let crucial opportunities slip away.
Kohli was dropped when he was on 21, and Padikkal also benefited from a missed chance.
Against a batter of Kohli’s quality, even one error can change the entire match.
Two dropped catches made the task even tougher for KKR, and they were unable to recover.
Kartik Tyagi Stands Out with the Ball
Despite the defeat, Kartik Tyagi was a bright spot for KKR.
He claimed three wickets and consistently varied his pace well.
His spell showed confidence and control, and he was the only bowler who regularly looked capable of breaking partnerships.
RCB Move to the Top of the Table
This victory takes RCB to 16 points and lifts them to the top of the standings.
More importantly, it strengthens their chances of securing a top-two finish, which can be a major advantage in the playoffs.
The batting unit looks settled, and the side appears to be peaking at exactly the right time.
KKR Face an Uphill Battle
For KKR, this defeat is a significant setback.
Their winning streak has ended, and their playoff hopes are now hanging by a thread.
Even if they win their remaining matches, qualification is no longer entirely in their control.
Final Word
Virat Kohli has produced many memorable run chases, but this innings felt particularly significant.
After two disappointing outings, he returned with a century that carried both authority and composure.
KKR posted a challenging score and competed well, but once Kohli settled in, RCB always looked in command.
As the tournament moves toward the playoffs, RCB have momentum, confidence, and their most trusted batter back at his best.
That is a combination every team will be wary of.
