One of the biggest pulls that keeps players coming back to speed stars for the long term is the feeling of progress that is felt, whether it is after a loss or shaving off a fraction of a second from a prior best performance. The game brings home the notion that a few hundredths of a second, apparently trivial at first appearance, are of great worth in this brutal world of professional racing. It is that unique feeling when a player crosses the finish line just short of their objective, that triumph is there for the taking, if only they could pull it off with a little more accuracy. It’s this same mentality that builds an addictive feedback loop of practice, forcing players to come back again and again to try to break their own personal records. In contrast, for longer distance races, the consistency of form and efficiency without any decline in performance in the later parts of the race is more important. Hurdle difficulties bring up an extra degree of technical strain, forcing players to flawlessly match their jogging tempo with the exact instant they jump over hurdles. Each game mode has its own competitive vibe that forces players to always evolve their way of playing instead of sticking to one. And it’s this variety that makes the experience new and interesting, even after you have spent endless hours practicing and preparing. Players will not only become faster, but also learn how to rapidly react to the ever-changing difficulties in the many competitive modes. It’s this aspect that allows speedstars to provide lasting depth, not just brief thrills. Each race is a different test of talent, with its own unique challenges and expectations. Overall speedstars creates a really rich universe of high-speed sports, far richer than its first basic aesthetics may imply.
