Filitra works through a well-defined biochemical pathway to treat erectile dysfunction. Its active ingredient, vardenafil, belongs to a class of drugs called phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors.
The mechanism of action begins during sexual stimulation. When a man is sexually aroused, nitric oxide (NO) is released in the penile tissues. This nitric oxide activates an enzyme called guanylate cyclase, which increases levels of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). cGMP is responsible for relaxing smooth muscle cells in the blood vessels of the penis, allowing increased blood flow and resulting in an erection.
Normally, the PDE5 enzyme breaks down cGMP, which limits and reverses the erection process. FILITRA works by selectively inhibiting PDE5, preventing the breakdown of cGMP. As a result, cGMP levels remain elevated for longer, sustaining smooth muscle relaxation and improving blood flow into the erectile tissue.
Importantly, Filitra does not directly cause an erection on its own. Sexual stimulation is still required to initiate nitric oxide release. Without arousal, the drug has minimal effect.
By enhancing the natural erectile response, Filitra helps men achieve and maintain a firm erection suitable for sexual activity. It is typically effective within 30 to 60 minutes and lasts for several hours, depending on individual factors such as metabolism, dose, and overall health.
