Kia has largely avoided continuously variable transmissions in favor of traditional automatic and dual-clutch gearboxes. Unlike many competitors, the Kia Transmission lineup primarily relies on six-speed, seven-speed, and eight-speed automatic units, along with a popular seven-speed dual-clutch found in sportier models. Kia believes conventional automatics and DCTs deliver better performance, driver feel, and long-term durability over CVTs. The brand has consistently invested in refining its multi-speed automatic technology to improve fuel efficiency without sacrificing driving enjoyment. While early or market-specific models may differ, a CVT-equipped Kia Transmission remains uncommon across their mainstream global vehicle lineup available today.
