Vilitra contains vardenafil, a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor used for erectile dysfunction. Ringing in the ears (known as tinnitus) is not a common side effect, but it has been reported in rare cases with PDE5 inhibitors, including vardenafil.
The exact reason this may happen is not fully understood, but it is thought to be related to changes in blood flow or sensitivity in the inner ear. PDE5 inhibitors work by relaxing blood vessels and increasing circulation, and in very rare individuals this may affect the delicate structures of the ear.
However, it is important to note that tinnitus is not listed as a frequent or expected side effect of VILITRA. More commonly reported side effects include headache, flushing, nasal congestion, dizziness, and indigestion.
If someone experiences ringing in the ears after taking Vilitra, it may not necessarily be caused by the medication. Other factors such as stress, high blood pressure, ear infections, exposure to loud noise, or use of other medicines can also trigger tinnitus.
If the symptom is new, persistent, or worsening, it is important to stop the medication and consult a healthcare professional promptly. A doctor can assess whether Vilitra is the cause or if another underlying condition needs attention.
