Few elements in the Grand Theft Auto series are as iconic as its weapons. From the simple pistols of the early games to the expansive arsenals of GTA V, firearms have always been more than tools of chaos—they are symbols of character, style, and era. Based on recent details and footage, Grand Theft Auto 6 appears ready to take that philosophy to another level. If the latest reveals are accurate, the handgun category alone may become one of the most immersive and carefully designed systems Rockstar Games has ever created.
Rather than filling the game with generic sidearms, Rockstar seems to be treating pistols and revolvers as storytelling devices. Each firearm appears selected not only for gameplay variety, but also for character identity, regional authenticity, and player customization. In a game set in modern-day Leonida, Rockstar’s fictional version of Florida, that level of detail matters.
The Return of the Legendary .357 Python
For longtime fans, few weapons carry as much nostalgia as the .357 Python revolver. This gun instantly recalls the golden era of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, where Tommy Versetti made the revolver one of the most feared sidearms in gaming history. It was powerful, stylish, loud, and unforgettable.
Its return in GTA 6 would be more than fan service—it would be a symbolic bridge between Rockstar’s past and present. Vice City remains one of the most beloved settings in gaming history, and bringing back Tommy’s iconic weapon would reinforce that legacy.
However, nostalgia alone is not enough. What made the Python special was how it felt. The heavy firing animation, the dramatic stance, and the thunderous sound effect gave every shot weight. If Rockstar recreates that sensation with modern technology—enhanced recoil physics, richer audio design, and realistic handling—the Python could once again become a fan-favorite powerhouse.
It may also serve as a high-risk, high-reward weapon in gameplay. Slow firing but devastatingly strong, the revolver would appeal to players who prefer precision over spray-and-pray combat.
The Beretta M9 and Jason’s Military Identity
Another major inclusion appears to be the Beretta M9, a firearm with deep real-world history. Known as the standard sidearm of the United States military from the mid-1980s until recently, the M9 carries instant associations with discipline, training, and combat experience.
That matters because Jason, one of the game’s protagonists, has been strongly implied to possess a military background. Seeing him carry the M9 in multiple scenes suggests Rockstar is using weapons to communicate character history without exposition.
This is one of Rockstar’s greatest strengths as a developer. Rather than telling players who a character is through dialogue alone, they show it through details. Jason carrying an M9 instead of a flashy custom pistol says something important: he may trust reliability, familiarity, and practicality over style.
If that reading is correct, players could see differences in weapon preference between Jason and Lucia. Jason may favor standard-issue firearms, tactical rifles, and practical gear, while Lucia may lean toward personalized weapons, street-modified handguns, or more aggressive customization. That contrast could deepen their personalities and gameplay identities.
