For me, CS 1.6 isn’t just a game—it’s an entire era of computer clubs, smoke-filled rooms, and shouts of “Who killed the rat?!” I remember how we’d rush to grab computers after school, how we’d save up lunch money for a “night at the club,” and how we’d genuinely celebrate every round we won. I remember those late-night sessions, with just dim monitors and the sound of the M4A-1 reloading. And those legendary memes about “Fire in the hole” and the endless debates over which gun was better—a Colt with a silencer or without?

The most vivid thing is that sense of unity when you’re sitting shoulder to shoulder with your team, coming up with tactics on the fly for “Inferno.” Nowadays, everything online feels so impersonal—everyone’s in their own homes with headphones on—but back then, it was a real social club. It was a game about communication, about the thrill, and about those very emotions when you’re down to 1 vs. 5 and your hands actually start shaking.

Man, I’m jealous of you—my mom never let me stay out at the computer club at night. According to her, kids should be sleeping, not playing games until morning, and of course she was worried about my schoolwork. I can’t say I always listened to her :) Many years have passed now, and I have a son of my own, but I set up my old computer for him and downloaded Counter-Strike v1.6 so we could play together. I still remember my first kill, my first 1v3 clutch, my first ace—I thought everyone in the club would go deaf when I became the winner of the round and the match as a whole; that euphoria warmed my soul for a long time. I see it in my son, and it makes me even happier.
