I Wasn’t Even Making Big Mistakes
This one is a bit embarrassing.
I opened a sudoku puzzle, started playing like normal, everything was going fine. Not too hard, not too easy. Just a decent, chill session.
Then I made a mistake.
Nothing major. Just one wrong number. I caught it pretty quickly too, like a minute later. Easy fix, right?
But instead of correcting it and continuing… I restarted the whole puzzle.
And Then I Did It Again The Second Run
I told myself, “Okay, this time I’ll play more carefully.”
And I did—for a while. But then I hesitated on one number. I wasn’t 100% sure, maybe like 90%.
Instead of placing it and moving on, I got uncomfortable.
“What if it’s wrong again?”
So what did I do?
Yep. Restarted.
The Third Time Was Just Stupid
At this point, I wasn’t even enjoying the puzzle anymore. I was just chasing this idea of a “perfect run” where I wouldn’t make any mistakes at all.
Which, if you think about it, is kind of unrealistic.
But I kept going anyway.
The Moment I Realized What I Was Doing
Somewhere around the third restart, I just paused and thought:
“Why am I doing this?”
It’s not like anyone is watching. There’s no reward for doing it perfectly. No bonus points for zero mistakes.
I was literally creating pressure out of nothing.
What Was Actually Bothering Me It Wasn’t the Mistake
The mistake itself wasn’t a big deal. It was easy to fix.
What bothered me was the feeling of “messing up.”
Like once I made an error, the whole run didn’t feel clean anymore.
So instead of accepting it, I just erased everything and started over.
Wanting It to Be Perfect
I think that’s really what it came down to.
I didn’t want a completed puzzle.
I wanted a perfect one.
And somehow, that mattered to me more than actually enjoying the process.
Why That’s Kind of a Problem
The more I think about it, the more I realize how unnecessary that mindset is.
Mistakes are part of the game. Actually, they’re part of how you get better. Restarting every time you mess up doesn’t really help—you just avoid dealing with it.
And honestly, it takes the fun out of it.
What I Did After I Forced Myself to Continue
On the next attempt, I made a small mistake again. This time, I noticed it… and didn’t restart.
I just fixed it and kept going.
It felt weird at first. Like the puzzle was somehow “less clean” now.
But after a few minutes, I forgot about it and got back into the flow.
And Guess What?
I finished it.
No perfect run. A couple of corrections along the way.
But it actually felt better than all the restarts combined.
Why I Still Keep Playing Sudoku
Because it shows you these little habits you don’t always notice.
Like how easily we turn simple things into something they’re not supposed to be.
Now I try to play a bit more relaxed. Still focused, still careful—but not chasing perfection for no reason.
