I’ve walked the High Street and seen the colleges a dozen times, but this summer I’m craving a completely different perspective of the "dreaming spires." There’s something about the Thames (or the Isis, if we’re being traditional!) that feels like stepping back into a Victorian novel. I’m planning a weekend trip and honestly, I can't imagine anything more relaxing than drifting past Christ Church Meadows with a picnic basket and a bit of sun. Instead of the usual crowded tourist punts where you're basically shoulder-to-shoulder with strangers, I’ve been looking into a more private boat hire oxford to get away from the main hustle. I love the idea of starting near Osney Mill—it seems much quieter and more authentic than the chaotic rental spots right in the city center. Has anyone here spent much time on the water around Osney?

I’m curious, is it easy to navigate the locks if you aren't exactly an expert sailor? Also, does anyone have a favorite riverside pub between Osney and Iffley that isn't a total tourist trap? I’d love to find a spot with a decent jetty where we can moor up for a pint without any drama. What’s the "can’t miss" view from the river that most people walking on the paths actually skip?
