Sildenafil Citrate is a medication primarily used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) in men. It works by relaxing blood vessels and increasing blood flow to the penis during sexual stimulation, which helps achieve and maintain an erection. It belongs to a class of drugs called phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors. Apart from ED, it is sometimes prescribed for pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), a condition where blood pressure in the lungs is abnormally high. Sildenafil is FILDENA taken orally, about 30 minutes to an hour before sexual activity, and its effects can last up to 4–6 hours. It should be used only under medical supervision, as it may interact with certain medications, especially nitrates, and may cause side effects like headache, dizziness, flushing, or vision changes. Patients with heart problems, liver or kidney disease should consult a doctor before using it. The generic form is often preferred due to its lower cost while offering the same efficacy and safety profile as branded Fildena.
