Urine is yellow because of a natural pigment called urochrome, which forms when the body breaks down hemoglobin from old red blood cells. The shade of yellow depends on your hydration level. Pale yellow usually indicates proper hydration, while dark yellow or amber may suggest dehydration. Certain foods, vitamins, and medications can also change urine color. If urine appears very dark, cloudy, or unusual in color, it may signal an underlying health issue requiring medical attention.
