Vilitra contains vardenafil, a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor, used to treat erectile dysfunction. Not every patient is a safe candidate, so a careful patient history is critical before prescribing it. Here’s what should be assessed: 1. Cardiovascular history Heart disease: Angina, recent heart attack, heart failure, or uncontrolled hypertension. Use of nitrates: Nitroglycerin or other nitrate drugs—vardenafil can dangerously lower blood pressure. Arrhythmias or prolonged QT interval: Vardenafil may worsen certain heart rhythm problems. 2. Liver and kidney function Liver Vilitra : Severe impairment can affect drug metabolism. Kidney disease: Dose adjustments may be needed for chronic kidney disease. 3. Eye health Retinal disorders: History of retinitis pigmentosa or sudden vision loss (NAION) increases risk. 4. Blood pressure issues Hypotension (low BP) or uncontrolled hypertension should be noted, as vardenafil affects vascular tone. 5. Allergies and previous drug reactions Known hypersensitivity to vardenafil or other PDE5 inhibitors. 6. Other medications Alpha-blockers, antifungals, antibiotics, HIV protease inhibitors, or other PDE5 inhibitors. Drug interactions can cause serious hypotension or toxicity. 7. Neurological and psychological conditions Severe depression, stroke history, or neurological disorders affecting sexual function. Summary: A patient history for Vilitra should focus on cardiovascular health, liver/kidney function, eye health, blood pressure, allergies, concurrent medications, and neurological conditions. This ensures safe use and minimizes risks of serious complications like hypotension, vision loss, or arrhythmias.
