For many telecom importers in India, the MTCTE Certificate is not discovered during planning, sourcing, or even shipment. It is discovered at the worst possible moment—when their goods are already stuck at the port.
By then, the damage is already done.
The Moment Everything Goes Wrong
The disaster usually unfolds the same way:
The importer places an order for telecom or networking equipment
The shipment arrives at an Indian port or airport
Customs asks one simple question: “Where is the MTCTE Certificate?”
Silence follows.
Within hours, the shipment is put on hold, and within days, storage charges, demurrage fees, and panic begin to pile up.
This is the point where most importers hear the term MTCTE for the very first time.
