How to Decide Between DIY and Pro iPhone repair?

I accidentally dropped my phone and now the display is cracked and partially unresponsive, so I'm looking into iphone screen repair options. I have purchased DIY kits online that promise to repair the screen at a low cost, however; I am concerned about what might be lost in internal components or Face ID functionality. Professional repair services on the other hand appear to be very costly, and I am not certain whether the difference in price is worth it. Has anybody here attempted to do the fixing of his screen, and succeeded in it? I would be glad to hear suggestions on price, quality, time taken, and the question about whether third-party repair has any impact on resale value or Apple security.
