I’ve been living in an older apartment in the Mission District for about four years now, and lately I’ve noticed something odd, the water pressure goes from strong to weak without any real pattern. Some days it’s perfect, other days it’s barely enough to rinse shampoo.
At first I thought it was just the building’s plumbing showing its age, but my neighbor mentioned that it might have something to do with sediment buildup in the supply lines. I asked a plumber in San Francisco about it, and he said this is pretty common in pre-1970s buildings where pipes haven’t been fully replaced.
He also mentioned that quick DIY fixes, like changing showerheads or cleaning aerators, don’t help much if the actual pressure regulator is failing. Now I’m wondering if this is something the whole building should get checked or if it’s just my unit.
Has anyone else run into this around the city? Did you handle it individually or get your landlord involved? Curious what worked for you.
