Filitra is a medication used primarily to treat erectile dysfunction (ED). It contains vardenafil, a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor that works by increasing blood flow to the penis to help achieve and maintain an erection. Filitra is known as a generic or branded version of vardenafil and is manufactured by Centurion Laboratories, an Indian pharmaceutical company.
Centurion Laboratories was among the first to introduce Filitra to the market, particularly in countries like India and other emerging markets. The company focuses on producing affordable, high-quality generic medicines to increase access to treatments like erectile dysfunction medications.
Vardenafil itself was originally developed and patented by the pharmaceutical company Bayer under the brand name Levitra, which was launched globally in the mid-2000s. After the patent expiry of Levitra, companies like Centurion Labs began producing generic versions such as FILITRA, making the medication more affordable and widely available.
Thus, while Bayer introduced vardenafil to the global market, Centurion Laboratories was one of the first to introduce Filitra specifically as a generic vardenafil product. This helped expand access to ED treatment in various regions.
