To start golf modeling in 3D, using accurate CAD or GIS data as a starting point makes for the easiest path forward. For beginners, software packages like SketchUp or Blender are intended for players to practice and learn terrain shaping, and layout modeling. For professionals, CAD software meant for golf course design will allow a precise grading of features, elevations of the site, and integration of water features. Importing aerial imagery or LiDAR data will smooth the workflow and provide better spatial accuracy. Once the terrain has been modeled, consider adding textures and vegetation libraries to provide an element of realism.
