I'm running into a persistent issue with QuickBooks Script Error that pops up every time I try to open a company file or access certain pages. The error message doesn't make much sense, and it’s really slowing down my workflow. I’ve tried clearing my browser cache, disabling add-ons, and even updating Internet Explorer (as suggested on some forums), but nothing seems to work.

Is anyone else dealing with this annoying problem? Is there a reliable fix for it? I read that it might be linked to JavaScript issues or settings in Internet Explorer, but I'm not entirely sure. Any advice or step-by-step solutions would be really appreciated. I’m using QuickBooks Desktop on Windows 10.

1: What Causes the QuickBooks Script Error to Pop Up?

The QuickBooks Script Error usually appears when a feature or web-based function fails to load properly. Common causes include:

  • Internet Explorer settings are misconfigured (QuickBooks uses IE settings even if you use another browser).

  • JavaScript or ActiveX controls are disabled or malfunctioning.

  • A page QuickBooks is trying to access is incompatible or contains broken code.

  • Third-party antivirus or firewall software is interfering.

  • Damaged Windows files or outdated QuickBooks installation.

FAQ 2: How Do I Fix the QuickBooks Script Error?

Here are steps to resolve the error:

Step 1: Disable Script Debugging in Internet Explorer

  1. Open Internet Explorer.

  2. Go to Tools > Internet Options > Advanced tab.

  3. Check Disable script debugging (Internet Explorer) and Disable script debugging (Other).

  4. Uncheck Display a notification about every script error.

  5. Click Apply, then OK.

Step 2: Clear Internet Explorer Cache

  1. Go to Tools > Internet Options.

  2. Under the General tab, click Delete... under Browsing History.

  3. Check Temporary Internet files and website files, Cookies, and History.

  4. Click Delete.

Step 3: Add QuickBooks as a Trusted Site

  1. Go to Tools > Internet Options > Security tab.

  2. Click Trusted Sites > Sites.

  3. Add *.intuit.com and *.quickbooks.com.

Step 4: Update QuickBooks

  • Open QuickBooks.

  • Go to Help > Update QuickBooks Desktop and install any available updates.
