The SGOT Test (also known as AST Test or Aspartate Aminotransferase Test) is a blood test used to assess liver health and muscle damage. SGOT is an enzyme found in the liver, heart, muscles, and kidneys. Elevated levels may indicate liver disease, hepatitis, alcohol-related liver damage, or muscle injury.
It is usually performed along with the SGPT (ALT) Test as part of a liver function test (LFT) panel. The normal SGOT level in adults typically ranges from 5 to 40 units per liter (U/L).
In India, the SGOT test price ranges from ?100 to ?400, depending on the lab and whether it's part of a broader health package. Results are generally available within 24 hours.
