Apple ID account recovery contacts are a feature introduced by Apple to help users regain access to their accounts if they forget their password or get locked out. These trusted contacts are people you choose who can help verify your identity and assist in the recovery process. To set them up, go to Settings > [Your Name] > Password & Security > Account Recovery > Add Recovery Contact on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac. You’ll need to be running iOS 15, iPadOS 15, or macOS Monterey or later. The recovery contact must be over 13 years old and have an Apple device with two-factor authentication enabled.
Once added, if you ever lose access to your Apple ID, you can contact your recovery person. They will receive a verification code on their Apple device, which they can share with you to help reset your password and regain control of your account. Importantly, recovery contacts do not have access to your account or data—they can only help you recover it. Choosing someone you trust, such as a close friend or family member, ensures that your Apple ID remains secure and recoverable in case of emergencies.
