According to N.J.S.A. 39:4-97, driving carelessly puts people or property in danger and is a serious traffic infraction in New Jersey. Penalties include points on your driving record, fines between and jail time of up to 15 days. In contrast to reckless driving, careless driving entails inadvertent negligence. A knowledgeable lawyer can assist in lowering fines or having the charges dropped.
