Despite their outward display of confidence, individuals with NPD may harbor deep-seated feelings of envy towards others' success or accomplishments. They may also display arrogance or haughtiness, believing that they narcissist definition are superior to others. Underneath their outward bravado, individuals with NPD often have fragile self-esteem that is easily bruised by criticism or rejection. They may react with rage, shame, or humiliation when their sense of superiority is challenged.
