uterine fibroid embolization or UFE is a minimally invasive treatment for fibroids. This procedure is a safe, effective alternative to surgery that allows women with fibroids to feel better without having their uterus removed. With UFE, interventional radiologists use imaging technology to guide a catheter through a small incision in the groin (femoral artery) or the wrist (radial artery) to the artery feeding the fibroid. During treatment, they block the uterine arteries that supply blood to existing fibroids.
