Benefits of surah al ikhlas – Surah Ikhlas Read and Listen
The declaration of faith is the very first pillar of Islam. Belief in Allah and His oneness is a paramount basis of our religion. While many Surahs in the Holy Quran affirm the highly distinguished attributes of Allah, the top being his indistinguishability, there is no Surah quite like Surah Al Ikhlas.
Held in extremely high regard by Muslims around the world is Surah Al Ikhlas, also known as Surah Tawheed. “Ikhlas” translates to sincerity or purity—which in this case means that the Surah is a declaration of sincerity to Allah, the One and Only.
The Surah is the 112th chapter in the Holy Book, present in the 30th para and comprising four short verses. Though known for its brevity, Surah Al Ikhlas has an important place in our prayers—the recitation of Surah Al Ikhlas 3 times is equivalent to gaining the value of reading one-third of the Holy Quran.
Origins Of Surah Al Ikhlas
The Surah was revealed to the last Messenger of Allah in Makkah, and it is believed that its revelation was in response to the Quraish tribe challenging the distinguished attributes of the One & Only God whom Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) asked the people to worship.
The concept of monotheism was received with much hatred and contempt by the worshippers of false deities, and Surah Iklhas established the unity and distinctness of Allah in response.
Lessons In Surah Al Ikhlas
All teachings in the Quran revolve around three basic principles, the first and foremost of which is the oneness of Allah, the very foundation which the entire religion of Islam is built upon. Surah Al Ikhlas is named so because it solidifies the concept of sincerity—that is, the sincerity that mankind is obligated to have toward Allah.
The complete and brief translation of Surah Al Ikhlas is as follows:
He is Allah, the One and Only;
Allah, the Eternal, Absolute;
He begetteth not, nor is He begotten;
And there is none like unto Him.
Revealed at a time when idol-worshipping was common, Surak Al Ikhlas invalidates the existence of deities and forbids atheism and polytheism in its very first two verses. The following verse emphasizes oneness in its most true form—with no one before Allah and no one after. He has no ancestors and no descendants, no partners or associates.
The Surah ends by concisely affirming Allah’s distinguished position. By reading Surah Al Ikhlas, we not only declare our sincerity for Allah but also praise Him and gain His blessings.
Benefits of Surah Al Ikhlas
Surah Al Ikhlas is a brief Surah—one that opens doors to countless blessings in various aspects of this life and the afterlife. The primary benefits of Surah Al Ikhlas are:
Safety Against Black Magic
As believers, we are also asked to believe in the existence of black magic in order to best prevent it and take action when it affects us. Surah Al Ikhlas is a source of relief for a person affected by black magic.
Reciting the Surah during and after obligatory prayers each day can help annihilate malice targeted towards us. The proper way to use Surah Al Ikhlas against black magic is to read it with the last two Surahs of the Holy Quran—Surah Al-Nas and Surah Al-Falaq—often referred to as Al-Mu’awwidhatayn (translation: “the two [verses] for seeking refuge”).
Health & Prosperity
Taking the name of Allah and praising Him before starting and during a task is a well-known way of blessing it and ascertaining a favorable outcome. This is why scholars believe that Surah Al Iklhas is a way to improve health and wealth. We’ve established that the Surah provides protection against evils, which affirms that it is beneficial for the safety of oneself and belongings as well.
Reward Of One-Third Of Quran
As narrated by Abu Said, the Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) once asked his companions, “Is it difficult for any of you to recite one-third of the Quran in one night?” To which they replied, “Who among us has the power to do so?”
Our beloved Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) said, “Allah (the) one, the self-sufficient master whom all creatures need.”
Forgiveness & Entry In Heaven
By reciting Surah Al Ikhlas affirming faith in Allah and praising His distinct position as the Eternal being, one gains the pleasure of Allah and forgiveness for sins. Additionally, the Surah increases rewards for the afterlife.
As said by Ubaid bin Hunain (recorded by Imam Malik ibn Anas), he heard Abu Hurairah recounting that he was out with Prophet Muhammad and he heard a man reciting Surah Al-Al Ikhlas. At which the Prophet said: “It is obligatory.” Abu Hurairah asked: “What is obligatory?” and he replied: “Heaven.”
