Filagra is a brand name for a medication that contains sildenafil citrate as its active ingredient. Sildenafil is a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE-5) inhibitor used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) in men. Filagra is similar in function to other well-known ED medications like Viagra, as it contains the same active ingredient. Filagra is specifically designed to address ED, which is the inability to achieve or maintain a firm erection sufficient for sexual activity. Sildenafil, the active ingredient in pink Filagra, works by increasing blood flow to the penis when a man is sexually aroused. It does so by inhibiting the enzyme PDE-5, which regulates blood flow. By blocking PDE-5, sildenafil allows the blood vessels in the penis to relax and dilate, promoting greater blood flow to the area. Filagra, like other PDE-5 inhibitors, requires sexual arousal and stimulation to be effective. It does not cause an automatic or spontaneous erection but enhances the natural erectile response to sexual excitement. Filagra is typically taken about 30 minutes to an hour before sexual activity. Taking it on an empty stomach is often recommended for faster absorption. The medication's effects can last for up to 4 to 6 hours after ingestion, providing a reasonable window of time for sexual activity. Filagra is available in various dosage strengths, such as 25 mg, 50 mg, and 100 mg. The appropriate dosage should be determined by a healthcare provider based on your individual needs and health status. Starting with a lower dose and adjusting as needed is common practice.
