1. PAY ATTENTION TO THE CLIMATE.

If you live in a part of the United States that is normally humid and you have no choice, then take your time — slow-drying paint can be your friend in that it allows you to fix mistakes before applying the second coat of paint. 2. FIRST THINGS FIRST.

Inspect the area to be painted. If the old paint is cracked, flaking, or peeling you will need to sand, scrape and rinse before beginning the actual paint project.
