Migraine stages refer to the different phases that people with migraine go through during a migraine attack. The stages of a migraine attack can vary from person to person, but they typically include the following:
Prodrome: This is the stage that comes before the migraine attack. People with migraine may experience symptoms such as fatigue, mood changes, food cravings, and changes in bowel habits during the prodrome stage. Aura: This is the stage when people with migraine may experience sensory or neurological symptoms, such as flashing lights, blind spots, or tingling in the arms or legs. Aura is not experienced by everyone with migraine. Attack: This is the stage when people with migraine experience the headache itself. The headache can be severe and can be accompanied by other symptoms, such as nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light and sound. Postdrome: This is the stage that comes after the migraine attack. People with migraine may experience fatigue, muscle aches, and difficulty concentrating during the postdrome stage. The stages of a migraine attack can last for different lengths of time, from a few hours to several days. The severity of the symptoms can also vary from person to person and from attack to attack.
There is no cure for migraine, but there are treatments that can help to relieve the symptoms. Treatment usually involves taking medication to relieve the headache and other symptoms. In some cases, lifestyle changes, such as avoiding triggers and getting regular exercise, can also help to reduce the frequency and severity of migraine attacks.
