If the store that needs the merchant services is still being built, you need to produce papers proving that the business is indeed on its way. As for website-based businesses, the merchant has to prove that the store is currently online (this is a requirement; online stores that are not yet online are not eligible for a merchant account). The website has to be powered by a US-based server, so take note of that during your application.

If you were subscribed previously to another merchant services provider, you can use statements from your former processor as proof of your ability to handle the credit card processing service. Contrary to common belief, bank statements (or the amount of money you have in your bank) are not necessary and are minimally helpful in the application.
