Whenever patients went to a hospital, an IV Cannula is a very common practice to do to a patient but you’ll get surprised to hear that, about 1 out of every 5 patients are experiencing IV Cannula Complications, and these things occur only because of lack of care or proper monitoring by the administrators.
There are different and serious kinds of complications that can harm a patience and are as follows:
Phlebitis problem
This type of complication generally occurs due to the size of the cannula needle or the improper management of the cannula like contact with dirt, etc.
Signs & Symptoms to be checked
• Warmer at the injected area: when a cannula is injected into a patient's body, if the cannula is inserted wrong then the area where the cannula is inserted will become warm when touched, make sure to take your 1st step.
• Change in color: When the cannula is inserted and if any kind of redness occurs around the injected area then this must be a caution sign.
• Swelling: When the cannula is injected, if there is swelling or a change in shape around the area then take action immediately How do manage this problem?

• If not sure about the veins or can’t able to find the proper veins for infusion then try for another arm or different areas where you’re sure regarding the infusion.

AIR Embolism problem
As the name suggests, this problem occurs due to lots of Air bubbles get enter directly into the bloodstream when performing the IV Cannula task and these air bubbles can be so dangerous that they can completely block the veins or arteries where this complication can lead to death as well.
Signs & Symptoms of this complications are:
• Occurring or blue color skin. • Patience is getting dizzy or anxiety • Feeling nausea, headache, some kind of muscle pain, joint pain. • Feeling Hypotension • Shock or confusion within • Sudden stroke • Dyspnoea or gasp reflex • Steady cough • Tachypnoea • Sudden respiratory failure • Syncope etc.
Other IV Cannula problems are:
• IV site infection • Flare Reactions • Extravasation • Infiltration • Thrombophlebitis • Hematoma • Electrolyte Imbalance • Acute hypervolemia • Anaphylaxis • Speed Shock • Cribsi • Other drug reactions
