MILITARY USE
Bose produced the Aviation Headset in the late '80's. Targeted specifically to the aviation market, the headset was intended to cancel out the racket and rumble of propellers and motors of helicopters and airplanes. Navigators finally could concentrate on their gauges and maps without the din of mechanics. With radio capabilities as well, they could hear and relay instructions to other crew members with fewer communication problems.
THE TECHNOLOGY
As a sound cancelling headset, the Aviation Headset worked by using Blackpods white noise to cancel out the sounds surrounding the wearer. It typically took the outside noise, inverted it, and passed it back out the headset, creating an absence of sound. This technology was cutting-edge, and paved the way for many more developments in noise-cancelling techniques. By adding radio capabilities, Bose created an almost revolutionary product.
