When first starting out learning a new instrument, you don't allows have to hire a professional teacher immediately. If you are not at all familiar with the instrument, you should probably get an instructional DVD to help you become familiar with it and develop some basic skills. If you are trying to teach yourself the violin, you can find Violin for Beginner programs online. These will help you develop a basic understanding of the instrument and also help you develop some skills in playing as well. This would be the most economical way to start.

You can get a beginner's program to help familiarize you with the different parts of the violin. You will learn how the violin makes specific sounds and which parts of the violin make them. You may learn about the history of the violin as well. You will learn how to read music and to produce the sounds called for. Reading music is not something that you will learn immediately, but over time you should become proficient in doing it.

You will be given specific musical exercises to practice. You need to practice everyday in order to hone your musical skills. You can move from lesson to lesson at your own pace. You should stay on a specific lesson though until you have perfected it, before moving on. This is the benefit of having the lessons on DVD. You can listen to them as many times as you need to, until you get it. When you do, you can go to the next level. If you forget something or have difficulty with something you can go back to earlier lessons to review. When you feel you have gotten to a fairly high level of ability, you may want to then hire a professional teacher to help you put the icing on the cake.
