I suppose you have distance checking with RuneScape gold the ground and objects in the world? Ita pain to programm this ontop of.net? :D Are you really going for"smaller servers" or do you want to implement layering or perhaps single shard servers, such as eve or double universe? Have you ever made your mind on what kind of combat system that you would like to execute? In the event that you use TCP or UDP I guess tab goal or activity based, this restricts.
Sounds intriguing, but the dreadful Minecraft images are killing it to me. Honestly, Old School RuneScape looks mostly because objects don't look blocky lacking detail. Your characters are the worst, the world appears better than the figures. Other than that I enjoy the more 360o look of stuff, I can not tell if you WASD or use point-and-click, but either way, it seems more reactive than RuneScape, that feels just like a lagfest. I guess the UI will experience a few changes.
My general issue is that the blockyness, in my view it's a art style for virtually any game from SNES and NES games.
